A Quick & Easy Guide For Shower Pan Installation
Installing a shower pan may seem to be a very complicated task to complete and getting a handyman to do the installation could make it very pricy. However, you don’t need to worry because this guide will help you in installing your bathroom shower pan easily and in no time. Just be patient enough to run through each item I’ll be discussing so that you can do the job with the least problem possible.
Above all else, you have to be organized to significantly lessen the time you’ll need for the installation process. Beforehand, check if you have the items you will need for the job. You must have a mortar or mortar mix, three membrane liners, trowel, and a screw driver. If you have any of these at home, the better. This way, you don’t have to buy another one and it will save a couple of bucks.
The next thing you must do is to choose the shower pan that will best fit your bathroom. Before heading to the store to pick one, you must measure the floor area of the spot where you are planning to place the shower pan. Once you’ve done that, you can now proceed to the store to pick the one that fits the floor area. You might also want to consider leaving an allowance for passage if in case your shower area isn’t located at the end of the room. Otherwise, you can maximize the size of your shower pan.
Now, what are the things you need to look for in a shower pan? First and foremost, it needs to fit the floor area that you just measured. Next, it has to be sturdy enough to last at least half of your lifetime. Always remember that the sturdier the shower pan, the less chances it will have in leaking through the wall. Pre-molded pans would be a good choice as they are considerably easy to install and reliably durable.
Now, you can start laying your mortar over the shower floor. Take time to read the mortar’s packaging to know the exact mixing it needs. After doing that and you’re done mixing the mortar, with your trowel, spread the mortar out evenly going portion by portion. You don’t have to rush during this step. See to it that the mortar is spread evenly across the area. After that, create a slope where the drain is placed. If you got a pre-molded shower pan, you don’t have to do that anymore since they come with their own slopes.
When the mortar has sufficiently dried, you can now proceed with laying down the membrane liners. To start, place a layer of liner directly under your shower pan and place another layer above the dried mortar. After that, spread another layer of mortar above the liner that you placed on top of the previously dried mortar. Allow the mortar to dry completely and then you can proceed with the final part of the installation process.
Lay your shower pan directly on top of the dried mortar layers. When doing so, make sure that you aligned it properly with the shower floor. Now, all you have to do is to screw the drain cover to the shower pan and guess what? You’re done! You can now enjoy your shower pan and be proud of it at the same because YOU installed it.
