Measuring Shower Pan Sizes
When planning to install a shower pan in your bathroom, the very first thing you need do is to make sure that the shower pan you are going to take would fit your bathroom. To be sure of that, you must take the dimension of the space where you are going to place the shower pan. Aside from that we also need to put into consideration that shower pans extend not just horizontally but vertically as well. A functional shower pan has to have a drain beneath in order to provide drainage for the water.
If in case you don’t have any idea on how to do the measuring for the shower pan, this guide would be very helpful as this is intended to do just that. Again and again, we need to be organized in everything. So, we have to plan first what we will do. In measuring, we will need a measuring tape, a piece of paper, and of course, a pen. Just in case you’re wondering how to measure with a paper, we won’t actually do that because the paper and pen are for taking down notes of what we measured.
The first step would be measuring the floor area of the space where you are planning to put the shower pan. To do that, you need to run the measuring tape across one side of the space. Take note of that measurement, and do the same on the adjacent side of the space, and take note of that as well. Once you got the data you will then have to get the area which you can express through the nearest foot, inch, or centimeters squared.
To get the area, you need to multiply your first measurement to the second one and the result would be the floor area. However, this measurement is only limited to four sided shower pans. If in case it’s a triangular one, you just have to do the same step and divide the product by two. The resulting number will then be your floor area.
Once every measurement was taken, you can now proceed to the store and get the shower pan that you wanted. In order to get the pan that will fit your floor area, the floor area of the shower pan must be equal, or at least smaller, than that of what you have measured. However, there are also manufacturers who offer custom made shower pans. This way you can be assured that your shower pan is made to your specifications and will snuggly fit your provided space.
When you’ve found the pan that fits your measurements, you can now proceed to the next part of the project which is the installation. Just always remember to ask the store attendant on how to install the pan, or simply ask if the pan comes with an installation guide.
